PLACES: 3 extraordinary art supplies stores in 3 continents

Oh, the time we can spend inside art supplies stores, browsing through materials and tools, and imagining new possibilities! Here are 3 absolutely amazing stores we visited and that we thought you might want to check out too.

1 : ITOYA - Tokyo, Japan (flagship store)

There are beautiful craft supplies stores, and then there is Itoya. Located in the heart of Ginza ward, fits right in with the upscale boutiques that surround the building. Each floor has a different theme, is curated down to the last minute detail and is an absolute delight to explore. Paper arranged in perfect gradients, this is really what design dreams are made of.

Extra tip: Once you exit the main building you can continue the journey in the annex building, which is on the parallel road (Azuma Street).

Online store: yes but Japan only

Arguably one of the most well stocked craft supplies stores in Europe: set aside some time for your visit because there is SO much to explore once you enter. From materials to tools, from cute stamps to professional quality paper: a whole world of possibilities unfold before you.

Extra tip: There is also a cute cafe at the entrance and a bookstore.

We visited the store in Lower Manhattan, Blick is a large retailer offering an extensive selection of art supplies, including sketchbooks, paints & canvases. Part of a chain, we were very impressed with the helpful and knowledgeable staff that greeted us there. At the time this article is written (april 2022) the website warns a change of location for the Chinatown store!
